The day I became Secret Santa

It was 1.45 p.m when I looked at my mobile phone after having opened my eyes from the previous night's sleep.
I had no other plans for the rest of the day. Oh wait!  If I can remember, one of my friends asked me if I could come for a movie tonight while I was sleeping . I murmured something which he caught as a tone of 'Yes'.
So, I must be going for Chennai-28 part 2.
I walked past the bedroom , to open the refrigerator in the kitchen ; pulled the bread packet out and then turned the stove on.
Here in Kochi, I along with my five other friends have been sharing a 3 bedroom flat since the last two weeks.
As it was a weekend, I woke up so late and those guys went down to have lunch during that time.
As I was all alone, being a lazy guy it was not at all a fun to toast the bread and load them into my not so large and not so small stomach.
I thought the day was going to suck!
But the climate made me fall in love with my bed and hug my bed sheets so tight that I was forced not to leave them till the evening.
As planned, we four of us were trying to book the cab through Uber to get to the mall. But the charge seemed to be double the usual one as it was a weekend. So, we had other ideas. Yes, we took the auto which surprisingly charged nominal fare.
We were already running short of time as we took the auto and so we strode as we entered the mall.
But I noticed a guy with a face that I used to say Good morning everyday at the office.
Hence I stopped by to say hi.
He was standing near an artificially decorated Christmas tree.
"Are u here for movie", I asked
He replied, "No, we are doing this work for children. Would you be interested?"
When I was about to ask him in detail, my friend said "Macha, padathuku time aachu vaa polaam"
(Dude, its getting late for movie.Let us leave")
"Oru nimusham machi" (one minute dude), I said to my friend
"Go on. What is it?", I resumed the conversation with that guy.
" See that Christmas tree over there. On its leaves we have tied papers which have wishes of small children. If you are interested you can pick one and help that kid".
"Yeah,sure", I confirmed without any hesitation.
He brought me and my friends near that tree and I was made to choose one.
On the paper that I opened was the wish of an eight year old child.
"Yellow T shirt + printed one", my mind read the wish of a child (whose name neither can I post in public nor can I ever forget) and forced my lips to show a smile to the guy who asked me if I was interested.
I said ,"I will get that now "
I was asked my name and other details.
The next moment I rushed with my friends to catch the escalator nearby as I was sure my friends would kill me if they miss the movie because of me.
We entered the shop, reached the kids section,chose the T-shirt which we all 4 of us were okay with.
As I gave the T shirt , they thanked us and asked us to pose for a picture below.

From the left Vijay ,Navneet, Jeeva[Secret Santa],Vijay (Yes we have two VJs)  And the one wearing Khakhi pants (out of the frame) was the guy working in our office whom I am very thankful to, for making my day.

வீரத்திருமகன் ஆதித்த கரிகாலன்! மக்கள் நாயகனும் ,வயதில் சிறியவனும் குணத்தில்
உயரமானவனுமானஅருள்மொழிவர்மரும்! போட்டு வாங்கும் , சொல்லிலும் செயலிலும் கெட்டிக்காரனுமான ஆழ்வார்க்கடியான்!
விசித்திரமான தெய்வம் ஊமைராணி! முதலானோரைக் கண்டு மகிழ்ந்தேன்!!
வெட்கம் உரு கொண்ட அழகிய வானதி!
அழகும் அறிவும் நிறைந்த குந்தவை!! படகோட்டியும் எதற்கும் அஞ்சாதவளுமான பூங்குழலி! இனியதோர் யாழிசைக்கும் மணிமேமகலை! இவர்களிடம் மயங்கினேன் !ஆனால் தப்பிப்பிழைத்தேன்.வார்த்தைகளால் வருணிக்க முடியாத, தான் நினைத்தை எப்படியும் சாதிக்கும் நந்தினி என் மனதில் நீங்கா இடம் பெற்றுவிட்டாள்! பைத்தியம் கொள்ளச் செய்தாள்! அவளுக்காகக் கண்ணீரும் வடித்தேன்! அவள் ஒரு கற்பனைக் கதாப்பாத்திரம் என்பதையும் மறந்து!!
 தஞ்சை, இலங்கை, மாமல்லபுரம்; பழையாறை ,கடம்பூர் முதலான இடங்களில் பல நாட்கள் காலம் செலுத்தியதை ஒத்த ,ஓர் அழகிய அனுபவம்.  இது பொய்யல்ல மெய்தான் என நம் மனம் உறுதி பெறும் அளவிற்கு  தமிழ் மொழியில் கற்பனைப் பொங்க சுவையூட்டுகிறார் அமரர் கல்கி அவர்கள்.
இதை வெறும் புத்தகமாக என்னால் கருத முடியவில்லை. நான் மேலே எழுதிய வார்த்தைகள் பலருக்கு மிகையாகத் தோன்றலாம் ஆனால் புத்தகம் படித்தவர்களால் மட்டுமே புரிந்து கொள்ள இயலும் ஓர்  அற்புதமான உணர்வு அது!!

பொன்னியின் செல்வன் -தியாக சிகரம்(ஐந்தாம் பாகம்)
பல அதிர்ச்சி அளிக்கும் திருப்பங்களை உள்ளடக்கிய
அருமையான புத்தகம் இந்த இறுதிப்பாகம்.
உண்மையாகவே அருள்மொழிவர் தியாக சிகரம் என்றால் அது மிகையாகாது.
வந்தியத்தேவனுடன் நான் மேற்கொண்ட பயணம் எத்தகு இன்பப் பயணம்!!
குந்தவையும் , வல்லவரையனும் மெய் சிலிர்க்கும் வண்ணம் பேசும் காதல் வசனங்கள் அடடே!!
பூங்குலலியை ரசித்த நம்மை மணிமேகலையையும் ரசிக்கும் வண்ணம் எழுதியிருக்கிறார்.
பெரிய பலுவேட்டரையரின் மாசற்ற அவதாரம் வியப்பில் ஆழ்த்துகிறது. அந்த மாசு நந்தினி தானே!
நந்தினி இந்தப்புத்தகத்தில் இனி இடம்பெறமாட்டாள் என்று கல்கி கூறியதும் கண்ணீர் என் கண்களிடம் அனுமதி பெறாமல் கசிந்து கொண்டிருப்பதை என்னால் உணர முடிந்தது.
புத்தகம் முடிந்தது தான் ஒரு பக்கம் வருத்தமாக இருக்கிறது!
அனைவரும் படித்து ,பேரின்பம் பெறத்தகுக் காவியம் கல்கி அவர்களால் படைக்கப்பெற்ற பொன்னியின் செல்வன்.

பொன்னியின் செல்வன்- நான்காம் பாகம் :) மணிமகுடம் :)
முடி சூட்டப்பட்ட இளவரசன் கரிகாலனை மையமாகக் கொண்டே கதை நகர்கிறது.
ஆபத்தை விலை கொடுத்து வாங்கும் வந்தியத்தேவனிடம் முக்கியமான பொறுப்பினைக் குந்தவை ஒப்படைக்கிறாள். பல ஆபத்தில் சிக்கினாலும், அந்த வாணர்குலத்து வீரன், அதிலிருந்து தப்பிச்செல்வது அழகோ அழகு தான்.
இத்தகு வாலிபனிடம் மனதைப்பறிகொடுத்த மணிமேகலையை நாம் குறை சொல்லுவது நியாயமா? இல்லை இல்லை! பரிதாபம் தான் பட வேண்டும். ஏனென்றால் குந்தவையின் அழகில் அந்த வாலிபன் மயங்கியது மணிமேகலைக்குத் தெரிய வாய்ப்பில்லையே!!
ஆதித்த கரிகாலனின் நக்கல் பேச்சு என்ன அழகாக பகைவர்களின் நெஞ்சிலே பாய்ந்தது.
நந்தினியின் அழகிற்கு ஒரு பெண் இளவரசியே அடிமையாகிறாள் என்றாள், நந்தினியை நான் வருணிக்க தமிழில் வார்த்தை தான் உண்டோ?
முடிவாக நான் ஒன்று கூற விரும்புகிறேன்!!
ஊமை ராணிக்கு என்ன நேர்ந்தது?
சுந்தர சோழரின் மனக்கவலை நீங்கியதா ? இல்லை தொடருமா?
நந்தினியின் குணம், அதற்குக்காரணம் என்ன?
வீரன் ஆதித்த கரிகாலனா அல்லது மதுராந்தகனா?
இப்படி பல கேள்விகளுக்கு இந்தப் புத்தகம் விடையளித்தாலும்,
ஆதித்த கரிகாலன் நந்தினியிடம், "நீ யார் ? அதை மட்டும் சொல்லிவிடு , நந்தினி" எனக் கேட்கும் கேள்விக்கு விடை அளிக்காமல் வாசகனான எனக்கு , அதாவது இந்த நான்கு புத்தகங்களை முடித்த பிறகும் புரியாத புதிராக நந்தினி என்னை வாட்டி வதைக்கிறாள்!
பொன்னியின் செல்வராகிய அருள்மொழியைச் சிறிதளவும் வாசகர்களின் கண்களுக்கு , கல்கி அவர்கள் காட்டாமலே நான்காம் புத்தகத்தை எழுதி, அடுத்து என்ன தான் நடக்குமோ என்கிற ஆவலைத் தூண்டி , கடைசி புத்தகமாகிய ஐந்தாம் பாகத்தைச்சற்றும் தாமதமின்றி எடுக்கச் சொல்லுகிறார்.
இதோ எடுத்து விட்டேன் கல்கி அவர்களே!!

Review - Book 3 of Ponniyin Selvan

பொன்னியின் செல்வன் - கொலை வாள் (#3) [Ponniyin Selvan - Kolai Vaal] by Kalki

Ponniyin Selvan 3 ( கொலை வாள்) is one awesome journey which ended too soon, but happy that I am left with two more books of the Ponniyin Selvan series.
ArulMozhivarmar is people's King and that is what Kalki tries to convey, through a  storyline which ends up in a rumour that the Chola  Prince Arulmozhi is dead even before he became the King. Even when Aadita Karikala was the crowned Prince, how much was Arulmozhi loved by the people and was hated by those who wanted to seize the Chola Throne is well crafted in this book.
The romance between Kundavai and Vandhiyadevan is one part that I thought was never gonna happen again when I put down the first book, where Vandiyadevan was sent by Kundavai to meet her beloved brother ArulmozhiVarmar. But when I came across that lovely part in this 3rd book, happiness is just a word to express my emotions.
The clash between Chola and Pandya Kingdom is quite interesting story to read.
"மீன் புலியை விழுங்குமா?"
 The character Nandini is the one I am more than happy to lose my heart to. The parts where Kundavai and ArulMozhi meets is where I feel like I would love to have an elder sister like Kundavai. "Mr. Arulmozhi, I am so jealous of you." The part where Poonguzhali tests our morals by comparing herself with Vaanadhi, I dont find anything wrong on her views and these parts make the reader think.
It is evident that anyone, who has seen Nandini cannot think of escaping from her gorgeous web, with only Vandhiyadevn being an exception. We even find Kundavai praising Nandini to be the most beautiful woman. I adore the character Nandini ,not only for the above mentioned reasons, but also about the subtle way writer Kalki has presented that character. Still her where-abouts make me curious and myself being a normal human being end up falling in love with Nandini.
Occassional goosebumps are guaranteed if you are reading this book.
P.S. Simply Awesome, fast moving unputdownable book crafted with lovely style of  writing :)

Lively Arulmozhi and Lovely Poonguzhali of this book provided me with an
unputdownable experience!
Characterisation is stunning!!
A journey through forest, ocean and their two-facesw called the beauty and the beast!
Ponniyin Selvan Part II (Whirlwind) Suzhal Kaatru is mainly about whether Vandhiyadevan is successful in meeting the Chola Prince Arulmozhivarmar and conveying the message that Kundavai has ordered him to or not! As a reader I had anticipated Kalki to introduce Ponniyin Selvan to me in many possible ways,but the way he is introduced is still sweet and brings a smile on my face if i think about it.
(I love Arulmozhivarmar character)
The parts where Kundavai and Nandini meet , author Kalki elevates the beauty of Tamil language and the conversations between them both is quite entertaining to read. Arulmozhivarmar is a character to draw inspiration from, and no wonder why he commands such love from Tamil people of that time. I did not know Srilanka was such a lovely island until I have read this book, which kindles my interest to visit the Buddhist stupas and my desire to go on a boat ride , with Poonkuzhali sitting beside me and singing that awesome song for me, "அலைகடலும் ஓய்ந்திருக்க அகக்கடல் தான் பொங்குவதேன்?..."

Review - Book 1 of Ponniyin Selvan

பல மாதங்களாக ஏதோ ஒரு சில காரணங்களினால் நான் தள்ளிப் போட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்த பல விஷயங்களுள் , கல்கி அவர்கள் எழுதிய பொன்னியின் செல்வன் என்கிற புத்தகத்தைப் படிப்பதும் ஒன்றாயிருந்தது.
ஆம் கல்கி நம்மை 1000 ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் முன் அழைத்துக் கொண்டு சென்று பெருமை மிக்க சோழ சிம்மாசனத்தைச் சுற்றி நடக்கும் சூழ்ச்சியை, படிப்பவர் மெய் மறக்க எழுதியிருக்கிறார்.
ஆதித்த கரிகாலனின் தூதனாக சுந்தர சோழருக்கும் , இளவரசி குந்தவைப் பிராட்டிக்கும் ஓலைகளைக் கொண்டு செல்லும் வாலிபன் வந்தியத்தேவனை மையமாக வைத்து பாகம் 1 படைத்திருக்கிறார் கல்கி.
சோழ நாட்டின் இயற்கை வளம் பற்றியும் சோழ சாம்ராஜ்யம் , அதன் பெருமையினைப் பற்றியும், சோழ மன்னர்கள், அவர்களது போர்த்திறன் முதலியன பற்றியும் என்ன அழகாய் வருணித்து , தமிழ்ப் பாடல்களினால் ஆங்காங்கே சுவையூட்டுகிறார்.
கதையில் வரும் பெண்கள் குந்தவை, வானதி, நந்தினி ஆகியோர் புத்தகத்தின் காகிதங்களைக் கிழித்துக் கொண்டு வந்து வாசகர்களின் மனதைக் கொள்ளை கொள்ளும் வண்ணம் வர்ணித்திருக்கிறார் கல்கி :D
சைவ வைணவ வாய்ப் போரைப் பற்றியும் , வைணவன் பேச்சில் கெட்டிக்காரன் என்பதையும் ஆழ்வார்க்கடியான் என்கிற வைணவரைக் கொண்டு மிக சிறப்பாகக் கையாண்டுள்ளார்.
இளவரசியும் வந்தியத்தேவனும் மனதைப் பறிகொடுக்கும் காட்சியின் இனிமையைத் தான் நான் எவ்வாறு எடுத்துரைப்பது.
பல அதிர்ச்சி அளிக்கும் திருப்பங்களுடன்,
400 பக்கங்களைக் கொண்டுள்ள இந்த முதல் பாகத்தில் , 'பொன்னியின் செல்வன்'யார்? என்பதைக் கல்கி ஒரு வரியில் கூறி இரண்டாம் பாகத்திற்கு பிள்ளையார் சுழி போடுகிறார்.
தமிழ் தெரிந்த , தமிழர்களாய்ப் பிறந்த எல்லோரும் கட்டாயம் படியுங்கள் நண்பர்களே!
பொன்னியின் செல்வன் பாகம் 1 படித்து முடிக்கும் இத்தருணத்தில் தமிழ் மொழி கற்பித்த ஆசான்களுக்கு நன்றி கூற வார்த்தையின்றி தவிக்கிறேன்!
